Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend and the cooler weather of late. Thanks to the recent wetter conditions the BC Wildfire Management Branch has lifted the Campfire Ban that was put in place in our region so small, controlled campfires are once again permitted. If you are in need of firewood we have bags of local firewood available at the store again for $10/bag including tax. To find out more information about the latest fire danger ratings etc. please click here.
In other news, summer seems to be flying by and we are already planning for our annual end of season celebrations taking place on the Labour Day Long Weekend (August 30 – September 1). This year we are pleased to announce the following events (more details to follow):
- Cooking Competition: Everything’s Better with Bacon!
Enter your best recipe featuring everyone’s favourite ingredient, bacon, for our judges to taste test
- Bouncy Castles & Face Painting on Sunday, August 31st
- Parking Lot Dance on Sunday, August 31st, featuring trio Hark Raving Sirens (7:30pm start)
A little about Fernie’s Hark Raving Sirens: Bringing ukulele, guitar and the most impressive instrument of them all, three amazing voices working as one, Hark Raving Sirens have really created something special. From country ditties to twisted pop covers these ladies have a sound that will have you toe tapping and singing along in no time. Check out their facebook page here.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend and we look forward to seeing you at the lake again soon.
Hope everyone had a great long weekend. As you may know, there is now (as of Tues. August 5th at noon) a campfire ban in effect for our region so campfires are no longer permitted. For more information on this please click here. For the official Southeast Fire Centre Map, click here.
In other news, please note that BC Hydro has scheduled power outage that will happen this Sunday, August 10th from 4am – 8am. This will affect your water.
The beautiful hot summer weather is continuing so hope you can get out and enjoy it. See you at the lake soon!
Hope everyone is having a great week and perhaps we will see some of you at the lake this weekend. This is just a brief update to let you know that small controlled campfires are still permitted but there is a fireworks ban in place (since early July.) For the latest Fire Danger Ratings for BC by region click here.
In other news, there is an event taking place in the region this weekend that we just learned of but that may interest some of you.
The 2nd Annual EK Standup Paddleboard Festival and Race is taking place this weekend so SUP enthusiasts might be interested in taking part. Presented by Just Liquid Sports in Cranbrook, Saturday has 12 events, all of which are taking place at Jim Smith Lake (Cranbrook). Sunday is when the Down River SUP Race takes place beginning at 12 noon where the Bull River enters the Kootenay River (right beside the BC Fish Hatchery) and ends at the Wardner Bridge. The finish line will be the Wardner Bridge that crosses over the Kootenay River just bellow the old Wardner-Fort Steele Rd. closest to the Jaffray side.
Paddleboard rentals are available for all events ($30) or $5 per event (i.e. race). To arrange for a SUP rental simply call Just Liquid at 250-489-2837.

Have a great weekend everyone and enjoy the sunshine!
The sun is shining, the weather is sweet and we’re into one of everyone’s favourite months of the year, July. Thanks to everyone who made it out last weekend for our annual Canada Day celebrations and yet again to Fred Mills and his crew for putting on another wonderful fireworks show. Remember, you can drop off your empties at Fred’s site (#110.) Make sure cans/bottles are emptied and have caps removed. Fred generously takes care of this recycling and provides all the money raised to the fireworks fund each year.
In other notes, the BC SPCA has been working at the campsite over the winter and spring to deal with the feral cat problem. They believe that they have been able to spay/neuter all of the cats on the property — all cats have been returned as the BC SPCA has no way of rehoming or disposing of them. Please do not abandon pets on our property — doing so can result in charges under the “Criminal Code & the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.” Please feel free to adopt any of the cats and kittens — but take them home with you.
Are you going to the Baynes Lake Farmers Market tomorrow (Sat. July 5th, 9:00am – 12:30pm)? The Historic Waldo Church is celebrating 100 years this summer. There will be a special celebration outside the church tomorrow from 10am – 12pm with gospel musicians and bagpipes. Everyone is welcome. For more information contact Bill at 250-429-3193.

Good morning everyone and look forward to seeing many of you at the lake again soon. Wishing you a great long weekend ahead, whatever you may be up to.
Here are a few notes from us here at the campground to keep in mind for the long weekend and spring/summer ahead:
Spring Clean Up
May 16th — 19th: You will find a large dumpster in the Parking Lot. Please use this for large items ie: old BBQ’s, old Bikes, old Chairs, etc. Please do NOT us for household garbage! After this Clean Up please take all of your large items ie: old BBQ’s, large cardboard boxes, old chairs, etc. to the Baynes Lake or Jaffray Transfer station.
Once again Fred in Site 110 is willing to recycle your empty beverage containers! This is a great service that Fred provides and we use the money for our Canada Celebrations. IF you notice someone (other than Fred) taking the bags of bottles from his site — report it to the office. We have experienced theft again at his site. We don’t want to loose this service — it helps divert a lot of material from the landfill . We also ask that you only leave your recyclables at Fred’s — NOT household garbage.
